Let's Go Back to the Bible

“Close enough” in doctrine is ok, right?

Some preachers are very skilled at what they do. Some are very dynamic and can really keep your attention. Some really know the Scriptures and can make them come alive. But do you realize that many of these so-called “skilled” preachers are in error? Is that a big deal?

The inspired historian Luke tells us of a preacher, named Apollos, who was “an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures” (Acts 18:24). In fact, “he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord,” except in one area (18:25). Well, that’s not too bad, right? Isn’t that “close enough”? The Lord didn’t think so. He had Aquila and Priscilla take him aside, and they “explained to him the way of God more accurately” (18:26). Being “right” about “most things” didn’t make him “right” in the eyes of God.  He needed to be corrected.

Be careful who you listen to. Make sure they speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Otherwise, your soul’s salvation is in jeopardy (1 Tim. 4:1-3; 2 Tim. 4:3-4).
