Let's Go Back to the Bible

Christianity: The Religion of “Firsts”

There is nothing secondary about the religion of Christ.  Everything is of primary (first!) importance!  Think about how this is emphasized throughout the New Testament.

Jesus “rose early on the first day of the week” (Mark 16:9; Matt. 28:1).  He appeared to His disciples on “the first day of the week” (John 20:19, 26).  The early church assembled on “the first day of the week” to remember Jesus (Acts 20:7; 1 Cor. 11:20; 16:2).  Jesus is “the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last” (Rev. 1:11).  “He first loved us” (1 John 4:19).  Therefore, He is to “have first place in everything” (Col. 1:18).  He is to be our “first love” (Rev. 2:4).  We are to “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness” (Matt. 6:33).  “The first of all the commandments is…love the Lord your God with all your heart…” (Mark 12:28-30).  Therefore, we must “first [give ourselves] to the Lord” with “first a willing mind” (2 Cor. 8:5, 12).

Christ put us first (Phil. 2:3-5).  Have you put Him first in all things?
