Let's Go Back to the Bible

Afraid to smile and be nice?

Do you ever consciously think about whether you’re going to smile and be nice to someone? Perhaps you’ve had a thought go through your mind something like: “If I smile at this person, then they might ask me to do something for them…Or, they might think that I want something…Or, they might think that I’m up to something… Or, they might think I’m weird…Or, they might think we’re good friends now and they can ask me to do anything anytime they want…”

Stop for just a moment and think about this. As a Christian, wearing the name of Christ and living as a child of God, is there ever a time that we should not smile and be nice to someone? Do you think Jesus ever held back a smile or nice gesture because He was concerned about what others would then think about it Him or expect of Him? That’s hard to picture, isn’t it?

The Lord tells us to “be kind” (Eph. 4:32), to “do good to all” (Gal. 6:10), to “love one another” (John 13:34), and to “do as I have done to you” (John 13:15). Let’s be more concerned with looking like Jesus and with what He thinks, and less concerned about anything else!
