Let's Go Back to the Bible

A “sword”? Did He really call it a “sword”?

If you were to listen to some preachers and some churches today, you might get the idea that God described His word as a “pillow,” or a “cloud,” or a “feather.”  You might begin to believe that Jesus depicted His word as “Jello,” or “rubber,” or “plastic.”  Don’t you find it intriguing that man presents God’s word as if it is soft and flexible, but God does not!

Consider the context of Ephesians 6:10-18, regarding the “armor of God” (nothing soft or cushiony here), and it is fascinating that the Lord commands, “Take…the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (6:17).  God’s word is a sword.  That’s how Jesus’ message is described—“ …Out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword” (Rev. 1:16).  The writer of Hebrews stated, “The word of God is…sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even…”

A sword is solid, firm, set, sharp, pointed, and is both a weapon of offense and defense, which must be wielded by man with faithfulness and compassion.  However, a sword can do nothing when it is left in the sheath and is never drawn.  Got your sword?  Using your sword?
