Let's Go Back to the Bible

A loved child vs. an unloved child

There are multiple ways to show a child that you love him or her, and there are multiple ways to show a child that you do not love him or her. Think about this from the perspective of God the Father and His children. How has and how does God show His children that He loves them? Think of all the ways that God has demonstrated His love. If you were to make a list of how God has proven His love for His  children, I know one thing most folks would leave off the list.

Jesus said, “Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline” (Rev. 3:19). “Do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by Him. For the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and chastises every son whom He receives…God is treating you as sons” (Heb. 12:5-7).

A sign of love (fatherly love and divine love) is disciplining, chastening, reproving, rebuking. Imagine if God did not discipline His children; it would be a sign of His hatred (Prov. 3:11-12; 13:24). The same can be said for the father or mother today who refuses to correct, discipline and chastise a child (Prov. 15:10; 19:18; 22:15; 23:13; 29:15, 17; etc.).
