Let's Go Back to the Bible

A lazy Jesus? Can you picture that?

I’m not trying to be unkind at all or make any harsh or unwarranted judgments, but it appears that we have (in our society and in our homes) fostered a spirit of laziness and entitlement. Let us be reminded that God has some very serious points for us to consider regarding laziness.

“The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing” (Prov. 13:4). “The desire of the lazy man kills him, For his hands refuse to labor” (21:25). “He who is slothful in his work Is a brother to him who is a great destroyer” (18:9). “As a door turns on its  hinges, So does the lazy man on his bed” (26:14). “Laziness casts one into a deep sleep, And…will suffer hunger” (19:15). “When will you rise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep-So shall your poverty come on you…” (6:9-11; 24:30-34). “A lazy man buries his hand in the bowl, It wearies him to bring it back to his mouth” (26:15; 19:24). “The lazy man will be put to forced labor” (12:24). The lazy man makes all sorts of excuses not to work–“The way…is blocked with thorns” (15:19); “There is a lion outside! I shall be slain in the streets!” (22:13; 26:13); he “will not plow because of winter” (20:4). Perhaps the worst possible thing to hear would be Jesus saying, “You wicked and lazy servant” (Matt. 25:26).

As a Christian who is trying to be like Christ, laziness just doesn’t fit!
