Let's Go Back to the Bible

A funny thing about statistics

A new study has been released from the National Center for Health Statistics, which reveals that couples who live together before they get married are less likely to stay married than those couples who do not live together first.  Isn’t that great!  I love it when a survey or study proves what I want it to prove!

But, let’s remember – human statistics and findings from man’s studies are not anything compared to divine authority.  I am thankful for the results of this latest study, showing the devastating consequences of cohabitation, and I will likely share those statistics with others to illustrate a point.  However, if we make life’s decisions based on man-made data and man-derived wisdom, we have forgotten that “we ought to obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29).

Cohabitation is wrong, not because statistics prove it but because God says so (Heb. 13:4).  The same goes for things like drinking – some studies say it’s good for you, but God says it’s not!  We must allow God’s Word to be our authority in all choices we make (Col. 3:17)!
