Let's Go Back to the Bible

A controlled response will make all the difference!

Conflict seems like it has become a necessity of life for some.  In fact, it is often hard to avoid conflict all together.  Whether it is a rude customer, a lazy employee, a rebellious child, an overbearing mother-in-law, a never-satisfied boss or even a well-meaning but bad-timing friend, conflict comes at us from all directions.  How we respond to conflict when it arises will determine the duration and escalation of the conflict.  Consider this bit of divine wisdom:

“A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger” (Prov. 15:1).

It is easy to prolong and further inflame a dispute – just respond harshly and watch the situation get out of control.  While perhaps not as emotionally easy to do, putting out the fire is also within our power – just respond softly, gently and in the spirit of Christ and watch the strife diminish and die down.  No wonder God extols the virtue of the one who “spares his words” and “is of a calm spirit” (Prov. 17:27).  May God help us to control how we respond to conflict!
