Let's Go Back to the Bible

Twenty-Six Years Old and Still Growing

On Thursday evening, April 17, Christian ladies from throughout south Florida will assemble for the Ladies’ Day hosted by our ladies. For many it is the largest assembly of Christian ladies they will ever attend. It is truly a time of wonderful fellowship and spiritual nurturing.

Who would have ever imagined what this day would become when it began 26 years ago! It started rather small as an attempt to meet the needs of women at Palm Beach Lakes, but from the  beginning Christians from other congregations attended.

The speakers at those first Ladies’ Days were all from Palm Beach Lakes. At least fifteen members from here shared the results of their studies with those who came. A change was made in 1988 when the event was moved to Thursday evening and a dinner was prepared for all who came. This move made it possible for many others to come, especially those from other congregations.

In addition to the ladies from PBL, other speakers from other places have been asked to speak. The lives of so many have been enriched by the lessons from Tommie Cain, Peggy Hatcher, Mona Faulkner, Gerry Nicks, Jane Foster, Debi Watson, Elsie Huffard, Rose Coleman, Carolyn McWhorter, Barbara Mackifield, Jean Reel, Jeanie Langford, Julie Jenkins, Laurel Sewell, Mattie Jackson, and Becky Blackmon.

The speaker this year will be Melanie Jenkins. She was born and raised in Roanoke, Alabama where her father has preached for 50 years. While at Freed-Hardeman, she met and married her husband, Dale, and for 25 years has been so supportive of him. They have worked with three congregations in Alabama. More recently they served the Granny White Pike congregation in Nashville for six years and are now involved with a new work in Spring Hill, Tennessee. She and Dale have two sons, Phillip and Andrew, and both of them are faithful gospel preachers.

Let me encourage every lady at Palm Beach Lakes to do all you can to make the event this year the best we have ever hosted. The evening begins at 6:30 with a dinner supplied by our ladies and then the great spiritual feast from Melanie Jenkins. Make your plans to be part of this fabulous evening of fellowship with Christians from throughout this area!
