Let's Go Back to the Bible

13 Things Every Teen Needs to Know (#3)

I know that I haven’t told you anything new.  You already know there is a God, He is alive and He loves you!  But, let it sink in for a while and think about how awesome that truly is!  I have something else that I hope you will truly consider, take to heart and keep with you for the rest of your life.

Lock this in your heart:  Jesus loves you and died to save you! I know, once again, that is something which is very familiar to you, as you’ve been singing that song most of your life.  But, it is one of the most profound thoughts you will ever have!  Paul said it was “indescribable” or “inexpressible” (2 Cor. 9:15).  It’s just hard to express in words how incredible this truth really is!

Truth: Jesus loves you! We know this because, as the song says, “The Bible tells me so!”  Jesus Himself said in the Bible, multiple times, “I have loved you” (John 13:34; 15:9, 12; Rev. 3:9).  “Christ has loved us” (Eph. 5:2).

Truth: Jesus loves you so much that He died for you! It’s one thing for a person to say with words that he loves you, but it takes it to another level for him to show it with his actions (cf. 1 John 3:18).  To show us how much He loves us, Jesus took it to the highest level—“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (John 15:13).

Truth: Jesus loves you so much that He died the worst kind of death for you! It’s not just that He died, but it’s the manner in which He died.  The Romans violently scourged Jesus (John 19:1).  Then they crucified Him (19:18), nailing Him (20:25) to a tree (Acts 5:30).  Paul said that He suffered “even death on a cross” (Phil. 2:8; i.e., the most heinous of deaths), which signified being “cursed” by mankind  (Gal. 3:13).  He bore this curse for you!  That’s how much He loves you!

Truth: Jesus loves you so much that He took your sins on Himself! The Bible says that Jesus never committed a single sin Himself (Heb. 4:15; 1 Pet. 2:22), but when He was on the cross, the Lord “laid on Him the iniquity of us all” (Isa. 53:6).  He “Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree” (1 Pet. 2:24), in order that we might be saved and live for Him (2 Cor. 5:21).  He sure loves you!

Truth: Jesus loves you so much that He was separated from His Father for you! It’s not just that Jesus died a horrific death and carried your sins (that would surely be enough to demonstrate His love!), but it’s what happened when He “became sin for us.”  The consequence of sin is separation from God (Isa. 59:1-2); therefore, when all of our sins were laid upon Jesus, He was separated from His Father (see Matthew 27:46).  He did that to save you from your sins!

Overwhelming!  Always remember: Jesus loves YOU!
