If you were going to finish the sentence, “The Lord is in…,” how would you complete it? A familiar Biblical text states, “The Lord is in His holy temple” (Hab. 2:20). No doubt, “His holy temple” has some reference to heaven, for Psalm 11:4 says, “The Lord is in His holy temple, The Lord’s throne is in heaven.” Yes, the Lord is in heaven, but that is not the extent of it!
The Lord is in the church, which is “the temple of God,” wherein “the Spirit of God dwells” (1 Cor. 3:16), for the church is “a dwelling place of God in the Spirit” (Eph. 2:22). In addition, the Lord is in His children, who are “the temple of the Holy Spirit” (1 Cor. 6:19), for He “lives in” them (Gal. 2:20). One final application of the Lord being in His holy temple: not only is He in His church and in His children, but He is also “in charge.” The Lord is the one who sits on the throne! He is in control, in charge and in command! Therefore, out of due respect, reverence and admiration, “let all the earth keep silence before Him” (Hab. 2:20)!
Is the Lord in…you?
