There are some interesting standards that God sets and expects people to follow. One man married to one woman for one lifetime with one exception (sexual immorality) is an interesting standard that God set and expects people to follow (Gen. 2:24; Matt. 19:9; Rom. 7:1-4; et al), even if that standard is not culturally “popular,” accepted or followed.
The God of heaven even sets out a standard for a man to work, and states very emphatically, “If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat” (2 Thess. 3:10). Notice in verse 10 that this is a command (or order), that it was continually given, and that the order also is to let such a one go hungry. Notice in verse 11 that to ignore this order is to lead “an undisciplined [or disorderly] life.” Notice in verse 12 that individuals are expected to “work” for and “earn their own living.” Notice in verse 14 that if someone is unwilling to do this that such a one should be “ashamed.”
While God’s standard may not be culturally “popular,” accepted or followed today, it is, nonetheless, God’s standard. “If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat!”
