Let's Go Back to the Bible

“No one dared question Him”

As one reads Mark 12, he will come across this series of paragraphs: “Then they sent to Him some of the Pharisees and the Herodians, to catch Him in His words” (12:13). “Then some Sadducees…came to Him; and they asked Him…” (12:18). “Then one of the scribes came, and…asked Him…” (12:28). Jesus’ attackers, deniers, second-guessers kept coming and coming. Then, there is this statement: “But after that no one dared question Him” (12:34).

Still today, people are constantly questioning Jesus. Folks don’t like His teaching on marriage, on divorce and remarriage, on homosexuality, on drinking, on many other topics. And, rather than submit to His authoritative teachings, many folks “dare to question Him,” saying things likes, “Surely Jesus did not intend that. No, I think He wants me to be happy.” When will we (i.e., mankind) no longer dare to question Him? When will we learn that the Lord says what He means and He means what He says? Trying to twist or manipulate Jesus’ words for our own benefit will cost us on the day of judgment!
