Can you imagine being the prophet Nathan in the Old Testament? David was not just any old king, he was a celebrity and a hero. David was the one who killed the giant Goliath with a sling – everyone would have known that story. David was the great captain and warrior of whom the women sang, “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.” David is the one who was targeted by King Saul but still treated the king fairly as “the Lord’s anointed.” David is the one to whom the Lord promised that his kingdom would be established forever.
Now, imagine being Nathan and being sent by God to tell this great hero, “You are the man!” (for having stolen Uriah’s wife and having him killed). That could not have been an easy or popular assignment for Nathan to fulfill, but he did it nonetheless.
We have heroes and friends who need to hear, “You are the man!” (i.e., the one who put Jesus on the cross and for whom He died). It might not be popular or easy, but it must be done!
