Let's Go Back to the Bible

You can’t win without losing!

Winning and losing are complete opposites; they are usually contrasted with considerable distinction. However, in the Christian life, it is interesting that winning is impossible without losing. Jesus said, “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it” (Luke 9:24). Paul explained, “What things were gain to me, these I have  counted loss for Christ…I also count all things loss…I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ” (Phil. 3:7-8). Paul made certain personal concessions (i.e., losses), foregoing some of his rights (as a person, a Christian or an apostle) in order to “win the more…win Jews…win those under the law…win those without the law…win the weak…save some” (1 Cor. 9:19-23).

Ultimately, every one of us longs to win! Win souls to Christ! Win the “imperishable crown” (1 Cor. 9:24-26)! But, for all of us, that is going to mean “discipline” and “subjection” (i.e., losses), lest we “become disqualified” (1 Cor. 9:27). Wanna win? You’d better lose!
