Let's Go Back to the Bible

Will you be a virgin when you stand…?

Being a virgin today is often met with ridicule, sarcasm and a joke. Even if you are a virgin, you might try to pretend like you’re not. Or, you might try to “lose it” at the first available opportunity. But, why? Why is being a virgin such a “bad thing”? Why is the purity associated with virginity not something that is admired, praised and held up in high esteem for others to model?

Are you a virgin? Wait! Let me finish! The paragraph above was written in such a way to perhaps apply to both being a virgin sexually and  being a virgin spiritually. Paul used the same word for “virgin” in 2 Corinthians 11:2 to apply to the church (or Christians) that the Holy Spirit used to refer to Mary in Matthew 1:23 and Luke 1:27. Paul, in Colossians 1:28, longed to “present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.” Christ longs, in Ephesians 5:27, to “present [the church] to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing.” So, with that same judgment scene, Paul longed to “present you as a pure virgin to Christ” (2 Cor. 11:2). Spiritually speaking, God wants you to remain pure and true to your “one husband”–Christ!

Will you be a virgin when you stand before your Master/Judge/King/Savior/Husband?
