Let's Go Back to the Bible

“Why do you believe what you believe?”

Have you ever stopped to think about it?  Why do you believe what you believe? When it comes to political and social matters, why do you believe what you believe? When it comes to moral and ethical matters, why do you believe what you believe? When it comes to religious and spiritual matters, why do you believe what you believe?

So much of what we believe is influenced by our environment.  This is not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just a reality.  Some people hold certain beliefs because their parents held that belief (and that’s the environment in which they spent their formative years).  Some people hold certain beliefs because of the social and professional company they keep.

Most importantly:  Why do you believe what you believe about the Bible? Is it because it’s what your parents believed?  Is it because it’s what your church or church leader believe?  Is it because it is what you’ve been told?  Or, is it because you have diligently “searched the Scriptures” (Acts 17:11), “rightly handling the word of truth” (2 Tim. 2:15)?  Think about it.
