The Bible tells us that Joseph and Mary had more children after Jesus was born—at least four more boys (James, Jose, Simon and Jude) and at least two girls (Matt. 13:55-56). These sons were called the “brothers” of Jesus (Acts 1:14; Gal. 1:19; Jude 1), because they were family.
That same Greek word for “brother” (adelphos) is used well over 300 times in the New Testament. Here is the part for you to consider today. Jesus used that same word for “brothers” when He said, “As you did it to one of the least of these My brethren” (Matt. 25:40), “Go and tell My brethren” (Matt. 28:10), “He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying: ‘I will declare Your name to My brethren’” (Heb 2:11-12). Jesus called Christians, “brothers”!
What an incredible thought! Jesus said, “My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it” (Luke 8:21). You and I get to be the “brothers” of Jesus and “heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ…that we may also be glorified together” (Rom. 8:17). Wow!
