Let's Go Back to the Bible

What you want most for your spouse

In the very first letter that we have penned by the apostle Paul, he told the church in Thessalonica, “For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming? For you are our glory and joy” (1 Thess. 2:19-20). Think about how much Paul loved these brethren. This was how much one Christian wanted his fellow Christians to go to heaven.

Sometimes it is interesting to read what one Christian said to another in the New Testament, and imagine a Christian husband or wife saying those words to his/her spouse today. How much do you want your spouse to go to heaven? Could you say this? “For what is my hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming? For you are my glory and joy.” That ought to be our ultimate and daily goal in our marriages today-our spouse in the presence of Jesus when He returns! What a thought!
