Let's Go Back to the Bible

What are you bringing for dinner?

Most of us likely eat much better than the average person in other parts of the world. But, is it really all about what’s on the table? What if all we could bring to the table to eat was “herbs” or a “dry crust of bread”? That wouldn’t be very good, would it? Certainly, we would rather have a table full of festive dishes to fill our bellies full.

But, there’s something more important at that table than what is ON it! Consider these two proverbs: “Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, Than a fatted calf with hatred…Better is a dry morsel with quietness, Than a house full of feasting with strife” (Prov. 15:17; 17:1).

Now, what is it that you bring to the dinner table? Do you bring strife or hatred, anger or bitterness? In that case, it doesn’t matter at all what is ON the table! For the sake of our families, for the sake of our spouse, let us bring genuine “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” to the table (Gal. 5:22-23). There is no better “fruit” on which and with which to feast!
