Hall and Oates sang in the early 1980s about “Private Eyes–They’re watching you, they see your every move, they’re watching you, watching you, watching you.” More than 30 years later, we have NSA surveillance of just about every aspect of our lives, usually without our permission or our knowledge. We are constantly being watched.
But, as a Christian, it’s not the Private Eyes or the NSA watching us that should be our concern. It is the human eyes that observe our words and behavior on a daily basis– young children, older children, older adults, strong Christians, weak Christians, new Christians, babes in Christ, struggling in Christ, not-yet-in Christ, outsiders, non-Christians, skeptics, enemies, strangers, friends, acquaintances, opposite races, opposite sex, opposite stage in life, etc., etc.
The words of our mouths and the conduct of our bodies tell a story (2 Cor. 3:2-3). What kind of story? Do others hear and observe Jesus when they’re watching you, watching you?
