Let's Go Back to the Bible

Two separate events

It is so important to be a careful Bible student and to make sure that we identify the context and the persons involved in each passage, lest we misunderstand or misapply a passage.

For example, how many times did a woman wash Jesus’ feet? Do you know that happened on two separate occasions and for two separate reasons? First, it was a sinful woman seeking forgiveness (Luke 7:36-50), and later, it was Mary preparing Jesus’ body for His death and burial (John 12:1-7). How many times did Jesus cleanse the temple? Do you know that He did that twice–at the beginning (John 2:13-22) and at the end (Matt. 21:12-17) of His ministry?

So many folks focus on what Jesus did with the thief on the cross (Luke 23:39-43), that they neglect Jesus’ words to another man that every “one” must be baptized to “enter into the kingdom” (John 3:3-5). His salvation plan for you is not what He did with one man (i.e., the thief) but what He says that every “one” must do (cf. Mark 16:15-16). Let’s be careful Bible students!
