Let's Go Back to the Bible

The unique joy of Bible study

What do you enjoy doing the most? What brings you the most joy and satisfaction in life? There are many answers that we could give to those questions, and most of our responses would be worthwhile and beneficial to our lives and our souls.

But, when it comes to studying the Bible, is that an activity that brings you joy and happiness? Some might see it as a drudgery or even view it as a boring endeavor, but is that the way it should be? Does God command us to study (2 Tim. 2:15) as some form of punishment?

Those who have really opened their hearts to God’s Word have found a unique joy that can only be satisfied within those sacred pages. Read Psalm 119. “I rejoice at Your word as one who finds great treasure” (119:162; cf. v. 14, 111). Do you feel that way? At least a dozen times in that chapter, the psalmist gushes forth with how much he “loves” God’s Word. Do you?

If Bible study doesn’t bring you exceeding joy, why not?
