Let's Go Back to the Bible

The divine record of who you love

The humility of Solomon when he first became king is admirable and refreshing, especially when contemplated in light of his modest request when the Lord God offered the new king anything he requested (1 Kgs. 3:1-15).  At the beginning of his reign, “Solomon loved the Lord” (3:3).  Sadly, his love changed direction during his reign, and toward the end of his life, the Holy Record states, “But King Solomon loved many foreign women” (1 Kgs. 11:1).  Solomon had acted in direct contradiction to the will of God.  Not only had God commanded them not to intermarry with pagan nations, but He forewarned the disastrous consequences, “Surely they will turn away your hearts after their gods” (1 Kgs. 11:2; cf. Deut. 7:3-4).  It is recorded of Solomon, “His wives turned away his heart…his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not loyal to the Lord his God” (1 Kgs. 11:3-4).

When the record of your life is being written, how will this verse be completed about you?  “[Your name] loved _____________.” Remember that God will be doing the writing.
