Let's Go Back to the Bible

“O Lord, please give my life…to me!”

The prophet Jonah was one of those individuals who had reached his limit and was no longer interested in living. Without judging his motives, Jonah “prayed to the Lord, and said, ‘…O Lord, please take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live!’…Then he wished death for himself, and said, ‘It is better for me to die than to live'” (Jon. 4:3, 8).

Have you ever been at that point? Would you consider just a few thoughts about “living”? It is better to live because life is a precious gift from God (Gen. 2:7). It is better to live because “the Lord’s mercies” (“lovingkindnesses,” NASB) and “compassions” are “new every morning” (Lam. 3:22-23)–you never know what a new morning will bring. It is better to live because Jesus lived (John 1:14), and He did it for us, so that we could find our abundance in Him (John 10:10). It is better to live because our “faith and hope are in God” (1 Pet. 1:21)–not in man, circumstances or things (1:18). Living is NOT easy! But, with God’s help, living CAN be faced with confidence. What if you wished life for yourself today and prayed, “Lord, please give my life…to me!”
