Folks, our world (and that includes some of us) has a “lumping” problem! And, for the sake of Christ, it needs to stop! We must stop lumping people into indiscriminate categories and then making
baseless judgments about a person or persons in “that category.” This happens when people/we say, “Black people are ___. White people are ___. Men are ___. Women are ___. Kids are ___. Cops are ___. Lawyers are ___. Democrats are ___. Republicans are ___.”
Lumping people violates God’s clear instructions to abandon hate (Gal. 5:19-21; 1 John 3:15), to resist partiality (Jas. 2:1-9; 3:17-18), and to show agape love for all people (Matt. 5:44; 22:39; 1 John 3:18). Lumping people violates the nature of God, for He didn’t do that with the Samaritan woman (John 4), the murderer Saul (1 Tim. 1:12-16), or with us (Rom. 5:8; John 3:16; Heb. 2:9). Lumping people violates “The Golden Rule” (Luke 6:31).
Every person is made in the image of God! Let us treat each and every one that way!
