This is a lesson that God wanted Israel to learn. The first generation that came out of Egypt failed to appreciate all that God had done for them and all that God was promising to do for them. When the second generation was on the verge of taking the Promised Land, God reminded them frequently that all they had and all they would receive was a gift from Him!
“When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you…you shall take some of the first of all the produce of the ground…that the Lord your God is giving you…And you shall say, ‘…The Lord brought us out of Egypt…He has brought us to this place and has given us this land…and now, behold, I have brought the firstfruits of the land which you, O Lord, have given me.’ Then you shall set it before the Lord your God, and worship before the Lord your God” (Deut. 26:1-10). “Lord, you have given us all! Here is the first of the best of it!”
All that we have is a gift from God! It is not ours! May we give Him the first of the best!
