Let's Go Back to the Bible

Is hate speech protected speech?

There is a debate in our nation as to whether hate speech is protected by the First Amendment or not. Some believe that the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights (which includes, “Congress shall make 2019-05-27-Is-hate-speech-protected-speechno law… abridging the freedom of speech”) protects hate speech and some believe that it does not. So, does it or not? A faithful Christian looks to a higher law.

Regardless of our nation’s decision regarding hate speech, God has already spoken. Here’s what God’s law says, without any amendments. “Be kind to one another” (Eph. 4:32). “Let all bitterness…and slander be put away from you” (Eph. 4:31). “Speak evil of no one” (Tit. 3:2). “Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification” (Eph. 4:29). “Treat others the same way you want them to treat you” (Luke 6:31).

Our Constitution allows freedom of speech, but God condemns evil speech. As an American, you can fight for our constitutional rights, but as a Christian, you need to follow God’s law!
