As a child of God, we not only have the responsibility to be ready for every good work (Titus 3:1), to maintain good works (Titus 3:8, 14) and to be zealous of good works (Titus 2:14), we are also charged to “consider one another in order to stir up…good works” (Heb. 10:24).
We hear today about the need to stimulate the economy. We read in the news of attempts made to incite a riot in some foreign land. We can watch television programs where nature enthusiasts try to provoke animals to some reaction for the camera. I point out examples of these three words because they can be used as synonyms for the word in Hebrews 10:24.
We have a great responsibility toward our brethren, not only to be a pattern of good works (Titus 2:7) for them to see and follow, but to do all we can to stir up, stimulate, incite, provoke good works in their Christian lives. What are you doing to this end? What are you doing to help your brethren to also maintain a zealous pattern of good works?
