Let's Go Back to the Bible

How’s the fishing going?

There are some people who absolutely love fishing. Some of my best friends through the years have been avid fishermen, for whom I have great respect and admiration.

The reality is that all of my Christian friends are fishermen. When Jesus called His disciples, He said, “I will make you fishers of men” (Matt. 4:19). What a vivid description of the purpose and work of those who follow Christ. Fishing requires significant time, preparation, determination and patience. Of course, not every fish bites and often times no fish bite. But that’s ok, because the joy is in the fishing. Just as fishermen are not called “catcher-men,” fishers of men sometimes don’t “catch” any interested souls either. Why do fishermen go out to the water, knowing they may not catch anything? Because they love and desire to simply fish.

Have you found and experienced the joy of living the Christian life before others, talking to lost souls about Jesus and offering to study God’s Word with them? How’s the fishing going?
