Let's Go Back to the Bible

“Hey, you! Get out of the way!”

How often have you been driving down the road and someone is in your way—maybe another car driving very slowly, maybe some road workers, maybe a cyclist or pedestrian. Have you ever thought (or even said), “Hey, you! Get out of the way!”

You know, life is like that. Sometimes we can be driving down the road of life, and things or people get in our way. While some obstacles may be easy to identify, how often are we sometimes the ones who get in our own way? Maybe we’re not growing like we should. Maybe the devil keeps getting the best of us. Maybe some challenges seem insurmountable. Maybe we’re not overcoming something like we wish we would.

Have you ever thought that maybe you are the one who needs to get out of your own way? Jesus said to “deny” self (Luke 9:23). John said, “I must decrease” (John 3:30). Paul said to do “nothing…through selfish ambition or conceit” (Phil. 2:3), but to “discipline [the] body and bring it into subjection” (1 Cor. 9:27). Am I in my own way? God, please help me!
