Let's Go Back to the Bible

Have you seen God’s glory anywhere?

Psalm 85 has some amazing thoughts as one contemplates how this passage might apply to us today. We must understand that while there was a “national” relationship between God and Israel, that it was also a “sanctified” relationship as well (which differs from God’s relationship with America). However, there are some principles that seem to still apply today.

“Lord, you have been favorable to Your land” (v. 1). Has the Lord been favorable to America? The psalmist pleaded with God, “Restore us, O God…and cause Your anger toward us to cease…Show us Your mercy, Lord” (v. 4, 8). Should we plead this as well? The second part of the psalm shows us what a nation must do to find favor with God.

“…Hear what God the Lord will speak…Turn not back to folly…Fear Him…Righteousness will go before Him and shall make His footsteps our pathway” (v. 8, 9, 13). Hear! Fear! Do right! These are the things required of America that His “glory may dwell in our land” (v. 9)!
