Let's Go Back to the Bible

From whence cometh a Christian’s strength?

Are you a strong Christian? If so, how do you know? If not, how do you know? What makes a strong Christian? How can a Christian truly know if he is weak or strong? It is not a matter of feeling — “I feel strong.” That’s not the gauge. It is not a matter of other’s opinions — “You are a strong Christian.” That’s not the gauge. From whence then cometh a Christian’s strength?

The apostle John penned, “I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the wicked one” (1 John 2:14). The two present tense verbs are linked together — “you ARE strong…the word of God ABIDES in you.” As with physical strengthening, spiritual strengthening takes energy, effort and endurance in lifting the weight of God’s Word and pressing it into the depths of one’s soul.

The word strengthens…the strong overcome…and overcomers are victorious (5:4). Now, back to the question: Are you a strong Christian? How often do you work out in God’s gym?
