Let's Go Back to the Bible

“Friends” with benefits

Have you noticed how obsessed television shows have become with sex?  Can you believe we have reached the point when public broadcast television has daytime and primetime shows that have as their sole theme (or as one of their major emphases) the glamorizing of the sexual inclinations and exploits of its characters?  One program that seemed to break through some social barriers regarding sexual behavior was the sitcom “Friends,” which was (and continues to be) one of the most popular shows among young adults.  There was a study done of the 236 episodes of its ten seasons on NBC.  The study found that between the six main characters on the show, they had 85 sexual partners, who actually appeared in guest roles on the show (this doesn’t count the ones who may have been talked about but never appeared in an actual role).  This means that, on average, each character of the show had at least one different sexual partner for each season of the show.  And, remember its name – “Friends.”

What do we find entertaining?  To what do we expose our own hearts and our children?  Sexual promiscuity is even a problem among Christians, but it is not because God has changed!
