Let's Go Back to the Bible

Dear friends, please show me what I’m missing

This may seem unusual, but there’s something that’s just not adding up, and maybe you can help. As a father, I help my girls with their homework every night, and math problems are my responsibility. The nice thing about math is that there is a certain (logical) process to follow in solving each problem and then there is usually a way (once solved) to check the answer.

But, here’s a “math” problem that I’m having a hard time figuring out, because something is just not adding up. The Bible says, “He who believes and is baptized will be saved…Repent and be baptized for the remission of sins…Be baptized and wash away your sins…Baptism now saves you…Baptized into Christ” (Mk. 16:16; Ac. 2:38; 22:16; 1 Pet. 3:21; Gal. 3:27). Just five verses from God (there are certainly more) that clearly emphasize that baptism is essential to be saved from sins and enter into Christ. But many people do not believe or teach that it is a prerequisite.

So, something is not adding up. Obviously, baptism is not the only prerequisite for salvation, but with all the verses that clearly teach it antecedent to forgiveness, how can some just dismiss it? As a “math guy,” that just doesn’t add up. Try checking the answer; it won’t work.
