Let's Go Back to the Bible

Contrast is sometimes awful and sometimes astonishing!

The prayer of Nehemiah in Nehemiah 9 is such a fascinating look into the relationship between God and His people, His children in Israel.  This, the longest prayer recorded in the Bible, swings back and forth (like a pendulum) between the majesty of God and the rebellion of Israel.  The reader can see that pendulum swing, as at least 16 times these words of contrast are used—but, yet, nevertheless, however, moreover.  Spend time meditating on this prayer.

“Our fathers acted proudly, hardened their necks, and did not heed Your commandments.  They refused to obey…But You are God, ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abundant in kindness…Nevertheless they were disobedient and rebelled against You, cast Your law behind their backs and killed Your prophets…Nevertheless in Your great mercy You did not utterly consume them nor forsake them; for You are God, gracious and merciful…”

Aren’t you glad that you have the same gracious and merciful God!
