Let's Go Back to the Bible

“Blest be the tie that binds!”

The favorite old hymn says, “Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love; the fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above.”  There is something uniquely beautiful and uniquely strong about the Christian bond.  The tie that binds two hearts together in Christ-like love is mysteriously strange to those outside of Christ.

Why do a Christian husband and a Christian wife usually have a deeper commitment to each other?  Why do Christian friendships seem to always be tighter and built on greater trust?  Why do Christians like to “go to church” so much and be around all of those people?  Why are Christians always taking food to each other and trying to find ways to help each other?

It could be said that such things happen in a Christian life because they are commanded to do so.  But, more likely and more accurately it should be answered that it is because of the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love – that tie is the mutual love for Christ.
