Let's Go Back to the Bible

Be kind

It is a simple sentence with only two words made up of six letters, but it is a powerful life choice. It will make an immeasurable difference in the lives of others, and it will actually impact you, as you do it. God tells us, “Be kind” (Eph. 4:32). It is an imperative, meaning that it is not optional. It is present tense, meaning that it must be ongoing in our daily lives.

Brethren, are we kind? Are you kind? Kindness starts in the heart (i.e., being “tenderhearted,” Eph. 4:32). We will not be truly kind on the outside, if we are not truly kind on the inside (Prov. 23:7). Kindness must be expressed in our words—our “tongues” must be governed by “the law of kindness” (Prov. 31:26).

Kindness must be intentional in our actions, as we “do good” to all persons, regardless of who they are (Gal. 6:10). “Kindness” is an attribute of God (Tit. 3:4) and a “fruit of the Spirit” in our lives (Gal. 5:22-23). Everyone we know and meet needs to be met daily with the kindness of Jesus. Are they?
