Let's Go Back to the Bible

“As one man”

The expression “as one man” is found seven times in the New King James Version—all of them in the Old Testament.  Notice how this expression is used:  “the congregation gathered together as one man before the Lord…all the people arose as one man…all the men of Israel were united together as one man” (Judges 20:1, 8, 11); “the people gathered together as one man” (Ezra 3:1; Neh. 8:1).  Can you sense the harmony among the people?  When they gathered together, their unity overshadowed, in a way, their individuality!  Their movements were in unison only because their hearts were in unison.

Think about this in relationship to the church today.  Could the expression “as one man” be used of the church today?  Could it be said that the congregation at Palm Beach Lakes “gathered together as one man…arose as one man…were united together as one man”?  True unity among all is only possible through true humility by all.  Read Philippians 2:1-5.
