One older faithful gospel preacher saw another older faithful gospel preacher in a restaurant one afternoon. The first preacher said to the other, “How are you doing today?” The other well-known preacher said, “I’m doing as I please!”
What! He’s doing as he pleases? That’s not what a preacher is supposed to say!
His friend knew exactly what he meant. Brother Nichols had committed himself entirely to the Lord and the service of His kingdom. It is true that Christians are to yield themselves to the will of God and seek to do only that which pleases Him (and not self). However, here’s what God wants to happen in the life of every faithful Christian – He wants us to become so in love with Him and to commit ourselves so closely to Him and His will that we only do what pleases God because that is the only thing that pleases us. As a humble and devoted child of God, I can do whatever I want and whatever I please, because what I want is what He wants!
