Let's Go Back to the Bible

Are you sure it’s “love”?

I remember the wise counsel that I was given as a young man: “There is a difference between truly being in love with someone and being in love with being loved by someone.” “Being loved” by someone makes us feel good, feeds our self-esteem and builds our confidence. It usually makes us want to love in return. NONE of that is a bad thing! But, that is not the same as actually being in love. That is not the same as truly and personally loving that person.

You might be saying, “Yes, of course. I know that.” But, have you made that application to your relationship with God? Are you “in love with being loved by God”? Or, do you truly and personally love God? It is easy to “be loved” by God! It takes a conscious decision and a diligent effort to actually turn “being loved” into a personal love for Him!

Our love for God is not expressed by sending Him a heart emoji! It is found when we “keep His commandments” (1 John 5:3)! If you say, “I love You, God,” how would He know it?
