Let's Go Back to the Bible

Are you in “the Way”? Do others know it?

There is a repeated emphasis in Acts to Christ’s church and Christianity as “the Way” (9:2; 19:9, 23; 22:4; 24:14, 22).  What a truth to learn in that – the Christian “Way” (capitalized) is a singular (notice it is not “Ways”) course for followers of Christ to pursue to be pleasing to the Lord.

But, consider this thought specifically.  Saul (turned Paul) admitted that he “persecuted this Way to the death” (22:4).  He went to Damascus to see if he could “find any who were of the Way, whether men or women, [that] he might bring them bound to Jerusalem” (9:2).  There must have been something very distinctive about first-century Christians that set them apart from all other peoples, even set apart from all other religious peoples.  They often gathered in synagogues, but how could they be distinguished from the other religious folks in the synagogue?

Think about it.  The lifestyle, practices and doctrines of the early church were very unique—so unique that Saul could easily identify them.  Are you easily identified as “of the Way”?
