Let's Go Back to the Bible

A hard lesson to learn

When we pray, we sometimes (maybe most times) expect God to give us exactly what we ask for and exactly when we ask for it. It is a hard lesson to learn, sometimes, that true prayer doesn’t work that way.

When Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane and facing a physical torture, death and separation from the Father while on the cross, He prayed earnestly and “more earnestly” (Luke 22:44), “take this cup away from Me” (22:42). And the Bible says that He “was heard because of His godly fear” (Heb. 5:7). Nevertheless, He was delivered into the hands of His enemies.

In Hebrews 5:8, it states that Jesus “learned obedience by the things which He suffered.” We, too, need to learn! We need to learn to trust God. We need to learn that God knows better than we do. We need to learn that God truly wants what is best for us. We need to learn to say, “Nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Hard? Yes. Valuable? Infinitely!
