Let's Go Back to the Bible

When Extension Cords Become Smarter Than People

The English language almost seems to run out of adjectives to describe the blatant and absurd foolishness to which many in our society have fallen.  They are so bent on running away from God and anything resembling godliness or Biblical values that they run into an irrational, nonsensical and mindless abyss of darkness.  Someone might say that is an unfair charge and represents a closed-minded position that does not want to understand “the other side.”  But let’s see if we can examine just one thing.

It was recently reported that…read this carefully…the B-O-Y Scouts of America are now going to allow G-I-R-L-S to join their ranks.  The God of heaven put a brain in all of our heads that has the ability to think on its own, without a biased media or godless culture telling us what we should think.  Every rational, sensible, fair-minded being understands that a boy is not the same thing as a girl and a girl is not the same thing as a boy.  But, for some reason, our society is bent on blurring that very clear line of distinction.  Next thing you know, they are going to be telling us that our right hand is our left hand (if it wants to be) and our left hand can be our right.

God warned us about these kinds of people.  Having turned from God and everything that might be pleasing to God, men “became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.  Professing to be wise, they became fools” (Rom. 1:21-22).  That is God talking.  The depth of a man’s folly when he rejects God knows no limits.  “Wisdom is too lofty for a fool” (Prov. 24:7).  “Folly is joy to him who is destitute of discernment” (15:21).  “The mouth of fools feeds on foolishness” (15:14).  “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes” (12:15).  “The foolish man reproaches [God] all day long” (Psa. 74:22).

So what does God tell us to do?  For starters, “Buy the truth, and do not sell it, Also wisdom and instruction and understanding” (Prov. 23:23).  Consider each of those words individually.  But then, “Go from the presence of a foolish man, When you do not perceive in him the lips of knowledge” (14:7).

When you go to the hardware store and buy an extension cord, it has two ends on it—a male end and a female end.  It does not take an overabundance of wisdom to discern why each end is so designated nor to discern which end is which.  How long will it be until we are told that those two ends are identical or interchangeable or even indistinguishable?  What a day of folly that will be!  It is the “fool” who says, “There is no God” (Psa. 14:1), and the preposterous depth of the depravity that follows “shows everyone that he is a fool” (Ecc. 10:3).  Brethren, be wise!  Be wary!  Be prayerful!
