Modern culture has created a mold for today’s preachers, and too many are allowing themselves to be poured right into it. On the one hand, preachers are being pushed in our society to be indistinct in their message (meaning, don’t be too specific about any particular doctrine or too pointed about any particular requirements). In other words, preachers should be motivational speakers who make people feel good about who they are. On the other hand, preachers have become targets today, as our culture endeavors to seek and destroy anything associated with Christianity. If they can tar-and-feather or completely take down a preacher, it is a victory for them! Therefore, if any preacher tries to stand up and speak out, in a manner contrary to the wishes of our modern culture, he is placing a bull’s eye on his back.
Preachers, it is time to be what God intended you to be! God’s preachers are like Enoch, who faithfully walked with God! God’s preachers are like Noah, who stood up for and preached righteousness! God’s preachers are like Abraham, who taught by word and example the magnificent truth, “Jehovah-jireh.” God’s preachers are like Jacob, who loved his wife dearly and willingly sacrificed for her! God’s preachers are like Joseph, who wholly trusted God to see him through the hard times! God’s preachers are like Joshua, who clearly defined the only two paths of life and urged the people to serve the Lord! God’s preachers are like Gideon, who used only the weapons specified by the Lord and nothing more! God’s preachers are like Jonathan, who understood that nothing restrains the Lord from saving by many or by few! God’s preachers are like Shammah, who firmly took a stand and defended his ground! God’s preachers are like Elisha, who understood that those who are with us are more than those who are with them! God’s preachers are like Josiah, who restored the people back to God’s original plan! God’s preachers are like Ezekiel, who did not speak anything without first saying, “Thus saith the Lord!” God’s preachers are like Paul, who shirked not to preach the whole counsel of God! God’s preachers are like Epaphroditus, who hazarded his own life for the service of the Lord! God’s preachers are like Titus, who was mindful to provide all things honorable in the sight of God and the sight of men! God’s preachers are like Jesus, who did not speak on His own authority, but spoke only those things given to Him by God! Preachers, it is time!
Modern culture would love to discourage, discredit and destroy every preacher of the gospel today! Whether it is popular or not, whether it fits the mold or not, we need preachers who will preach the word, in season and out of season (2 Tim. 4:2)! Brothers, the church needs you! The lost world, although it doesn’t realize it, needs you! It is time!
