The Lord’s church (globally and locally) could not function without the efforts of deacons, deacons’ wives, elders’ wives, volunteers, helpers and special servants! Read that again. It’s so true! I stand amazed on a daily basis of all that individuals do for the Lord and His church! What kind of individuals? Not the ones who “get paid to do it,” but the ones who receive no financial, monetary or material gain whatsoever for their efforts. To each of you, you have my greatest admiration and appreciation!
Deacons, volunteers, helpers and special servants do jobs that no one else wants to do! Who wants to clean out the refrigerator? Who wants to wash dirty towels?
Deacons, volunteers, helpers and special servants do jobs that no one else even notices! So, how did those light bulbs get changed? (I didn’t even notice they were out.) How did those supplies get in the children’s classrooms? (I didn’t even notice that they were checked and refilled.)
Deacons, volunteers, helpers and special servants do jobs that no one even appreciates (or pays attention to) until something goes wrong! Someone regularly checks the air conditioners to make sure they’ll come on and cool us off on Sunday. Someone turns the microphones up, so that we can hear the prayer leaders. Someone operates the video equipment, so that you can watch from home when you’re sick.
Deacons, volunteers, helpers and special servants write the curriculum, prepare the lessons, create the decorations, sharpen the pencils, buy the crayons, straighten up the rooms, etc., etc., so that precious children can be taught about God, Jesus and the Bible on a weekly (uninterrupted) basis!
Deacons, volunteers, helpers and special servants do jobs that constantly have people bothering them. “Did you fix that yet?” “Did you find that yet?” “Do you want some help with that?” “When do you think you’ll have time?” “Should I just find someone else?” “It didn’t used to take this long.”
Deacons, volunteers, helpers and special servants do their work out of love—for the Lord! Worldly folks don’t understand that; they think you should get noticed and honored for works that you do (especially volunteer jobs). But, the real workers in the church have found a joy in serving because they truly love God!
Thank God for deacons, deacons’ wives, elders’ wives, volunteers, helpers and special servants! If it were not for you, the church could not (and would not) function! Thank you for keeping everything running, going, lighting, flushing, cooling, rolling, watering, growing, flowing, stocked, cleaned, organized, opened, closed, etc., etc. You are deeply appreciated!
