Let's Go Back to the Bible

Justifiable use of deadly force?

Just a short note to all Floridians. Under Florida Statute 776.012(2), the law clearly states, “A person is justified in using or threatening to use deadly force.” So, there you have it. Did you know that you are legally justified to use deadly force in Florida? That’s what the law says.

Oh, wait! Wait! Wait! There is a context to that law. Oops! I only gave you part of it! The statute actually reads, “A person is justified in using or threatening to use deadly force if he or she reasonably believes that using or threatening to use such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another…” The CONTEXT of this law is self-defense! It would be entirely improper and impermissible to claim an unrestricted right to kill in Florida by ignoring the context in which those first few words are found!

Why do we understand that so clearly in this matter but wrench Bible verses out of context to improperly prove a point not substantiated by Scripture? Context must be studied, respected and followed!
