There is a short and simple, yet profound hymn with these words: “Give me the heart of a servant, Tender and faithful and true. Fill me with love, and use me, O Lord, So that the world can see You.” It is so intriguing and encouraging to watch fellow Christians who have the heart of a real servant, who have essentially said to God, “Fill me with love and use me, O Lord.”
All congregations of the Lord’s church (that’s a generalization, but probably true) struggle with a common “problem.” (“Problem” is the word that is often used to describe this condition.) It is usually stated this way: “It’s always the same people who volunteer, and it’s always the same people who do all the work.” That may be true (and probably is). Twenty percent often do eighty percent of the work. And, that could be described as a “problem” in some respects, but could it not also be described as a “blessing” (cf. John 13:17)? A blessing for them and for the church? Thank God for those brethren who love to serve and then longingly love to serve even more! Where would the church be without those who have said, “Use me, O Lord!”
