We’ve all heard the expression, “With knowledge comes great responsibility.” That axiom is true in the home, true in school, true in the workplace and true in the church. However, this truth has its greatest significance in our relationship with our God. Get your Bible and look at two verses – Luke 12:47 and James 4:17. Compare them side-by-side.
“That servant who knew his master’s will” is the “one who knows the right thing to do.” You and I are servants of our Master, for we know His will. Look at the rest of the two verses.
“And did not…act according to his will” is the same as “does not do it.” The knowledge did not lead to obedience. In fact, Jesus said that this one who knew “did not prepare himself” to do it.
What is the result? If I know what God wants and I don’t do it, how big of a deal is that? “To him it is sin” and he “shall be beaten with many stripes.” With these two verses in mind, read Matthew 25:45-46. It is a serious thing to know what God wants me to do and to not do it!
