Are you ever concerned that it seems the world has us outnumbered? Do you ever feel like we are surrounded on all sides by the enemy? Do you ever get the sense that the future is hopeless? If that’s you, then it’s important to realize that such “feelings” are not from God!
In 2 Kings 6, the king of Syria sent his army after one man — Elisha. In one night, “horses and chariots and a great army” came and surrounded the city of Dothan, where Elisha was lodging (6:14). Picture this: Elisha’s servant went outside early in the morning and was terrified by the massive army surrounding his city. You can almost hear his voice trembling as he said to Elisha, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” (6:15). The servant was frightened, but those “feelings” did not come from God! In fact, they were contrary to God. How do we know?
Elisha said, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them” (6:16). We need to hear and trust those words today! Those who are with us today (“if God be for us”) are more than those who are with them (“who can be against us?”)! — DS
